Monday Okpebholo has declared that he would resign from office if President Bola Tinubu fails to secure re-election in the 2027 general elections.

Okpebholo made the statement during an interview on African Independent Television (AIT) on Friday, where he expressed strong confidence in Tinubu’s chances of winning a second term.

The governor linked the progress of his administration in Edo State to the policies and leadership of the federal government, describing his remark as a sincere endorsement rather than political rhetoric.

He said ongoing infrastructure and social development projects in the state would positively influence voters and strengthen support for the president in the next election cycle.

According to Okpebholo, Edo residents would demonstrate their appreciation for Tinubu’s leadership through their votes.

“Edo people have not even thanked Tinubu. How they will thank him is through their votes. The various projects across the state are the things that will speak for Tinubu and he will win here. Bet me, if he doesn’t win, I will resign as governor,” he said.

Okpebholo also emphasised his grassroots political approach, stating that his style focuses on engaging the people rather than political intimidation.

He expressed confidence that the president would secure victory in Edo State in the 2027 elections.
