The Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Adewale Egbedun, and 24 other lawmakers have defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the Accord Party, solidifying Governor Ademola Adeleke’s hold on the party.
The lawmakers announced their decision during a parliamentary meeting, citing the need for continuity in governance and development in Osun State.
Egbedun stated that his decision to join Accord followed careful reflection and consultation with supporters, and that the party’s focus on welfarism aligns with his administration’s priorities.
The defection leaves only one opposition lawmaker, Femi Popoola of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in the state assembly.
Adeleke, who joined Accord in December 2025, welcomed the lawmakers and reaffirmed his commitment to people-centered governance.
He also announced the defection of former Osun Secretary to the State Government, Moshood Adeoti, and his loyalists.
