Ghana’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has initiated a partial evacuation of its embassy in Tehran, Iran, following a surge in hostilities in the Middle East.

The move comes after a joint US-Israeli military strike on Iran triggered retaliatory missile attacks across the Gulf, putting Ghanaian nationals in several countries at risk.

The affected countries include Bahrain, Israel, Kuwait, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates. Ghana’s government is closely monitoring the situation and assessing whether full evacuations of its nationals will be necessary.

In a statement, the Ministry urged Ghanaians in the affected countries to remain indoors, avoid large gatherings, and comply with local authorities’ directives.

The government has also advised against non-essential travel to and from the Middle East until further notice ¹.

This is not the first time Ghana has evacuated its citizens from the region.

In June 2025, the country closed its Tehran embassy and evacuated nationals to Turkey following an earlier wave of hostilities.

Ghanaians requiring emergency consular support can contact the Ministry on +233 240 913 284 or +233 240 793 072, or reach the Ghana Embassy in Israel on +972 54 931 6007.
