The Kenya Meteorological Department had warned of heavy rainfall in Nairobi and surrounding counties, with 30-70 mm of rain expected in the capital.

The flooding has damaged properties, forced road closures, and displaced residents in several parts of Nairobi, including Mukuru, Kibra, Mathare, and Westlands.

Key roads such as Uhuru Highway, Mombasa Road, and Thika Superhighway have been submerged, and several flights bound for Nairobi Airport have been cancelled or diverted.

The Kenya Defence Forces have been deployed to assist in rescue and emergency response operations, and authorities are urging residents to avoid flooded streets and drainage channels.

The Kenya Meteorological Department has warned of prolonged heavy rainfall, cautioning about urban flooding, poor visibility, and rising river levels.
