The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) faction loyal to Minister Nyesom Wike has announced plans to hold a new national convention on March 29, despite a recent court ruling nullifying the party’s November 2025 convention.
The Court of Appeal in Abuja had ruled that the convention was invalid due to non-compliance with constitutional requirements.
The Wike-backed leadership has called on the rival Turaki faction to seek redress at the Supreme Court if dissatisfied with the ruling. “They want to go to the Supreme Court, no problem,” said Haruna Mohammed, National Publicity Secretary of the Wike-led faction.
The Turaki faction has vowed to challenge the decision at the Supreme Court, claiming the court ruling would impose hardship on party members. Wike, however, sees the ruling as an opportunity for reconciliation within the party.
