Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf has officially named Deputy Governor Murtala Garo as his running mate for the 2027 election.
Yusuf announced the decision on Monday during a meeting with federal political appointees of President Bola Tinubu at the Kano Governor’s Lodge in Abuja.
In a statement signed by his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the governor said the choice was based on Garo’s performance, loyalty and commitment since taking office.
“I have no regrets choosing Garo as my Deputy in the last few months, and he has proven to be the right choice so far,” Yusuf said. “I want to confirm to you that I have every confidence in him.”
The governor praised Garo for competence and dedication, noting that his work has helped push the administration’s development agenda across Kano. He described the deputy governor as a reliable partner in implementing key policies and programmes.
Yusuf also called on party leaders, appointees and supporters to stay united ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“We must remain focused and committed as we consolidate on our achievements and move forward together,” he said.
Garo has served as deputy governor since the current administration began, and the endorsement signals the governor’s plan to seek re-election on the same ticket.
