Students of the School of Nursing and Midwifery at Nnamdi Azikiwe University Teaching Hospital in Nnewi staged a peaceful protest on the morning of March 10, 2026, over a significant increase in their school fees.

The students marched through parts of Nnewi to express their displeasure after the institution reportedly raised tuition from ₦90,000 to ₦580,000. They described the increase as excessive and said it would be difficult for many students and their families to afford.
Apart from the fee hike, the protesters also complained about the poor condition of their hostels and general living environment, despite the compulsory hostel accommodation fees included in the new charges.

While acknowledging that economic challenges can sometimes lead to adjustments in tuition and other expenses, the students argued that the more than 500 percent increase was unreasonable and placed an unfair burden on them.
The protest remained peaceful, with the students urging the management of the institution and relevant authorities to reconsider the new fee structure and address the deteriorating hostel facilities.
