The Nigerian Senate has confirmed Jamila Abubakar-Sadiq, a retired Rear Admiral, as National Electoral Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), representing the North-East geopolitical zone.
President Bola Tinubu nominated Abubakar-Sadiq on February 17, and the Senate Committee on Electoral Matters, led by Bako Lalong, reviewed her credentials and screened her before recommending her confirmation.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio congratulated Abubakar-Sadiq, praising her wealth of experience and expressing confidence in her ability to strengthen Nigeria’s electoral system.
Abubakar-Sadiq is expected to contribute to INEC’s mandate of conducting credible and transparent elections across the country.
