Victor Osimhen may undergo surgery after sustaining a fractured forearm during Galatasaray’s 4-0 defeat to Liverpool F.C. in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 second leg on Wednesday.

In a statement released on Thursday, the club confirmed that the injury was diagnosed following medical examinations conducted after the match.

The incident occurred early in the game when Osimhen was involved in an aerial challenge with Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konaté. During the collision, Konaté landed on the Nigerian forward’s arm, leaving him in visible discomfort.

Although some Liverpool players appeared to suggest the striker was exaggerating the injury, Osimhen continued playing through the first half with his forearm bandaged before being substituted at the start of the second half.

Liverpool went on to dominate the encounter, securing a comprehensive 4-0 victory that saw them progress to the next round while eliminating Galatasaray from the competition.

According to Galatasaray, Osimhen’s hand has since been placed in a cast, with surgery now under consideration pending further medical evaluation. The club stated that a final decision will be made in the coming days.

The statement further explained that Osimhen completed the first half but was withdrawn at halftime due to the risk of a fracture, which was later confirmed after hospital tests.

Osimhen’s replacement, Noa Lang, also picked up an injury during the match, sustaining a deep cut to his right thumb. The club confirmed that Lang will undergo surgery in Liverpool before returning to Turkey.

Prior to the setback, Osimhen had been instrumental for Galatasaray in the Champions League campaign, registering seven goals and three assists in 10 appearances, along with four man-of-the-match performances.
