Members of the Joint Health Sector Unions and the Assembly of Healthcare Professional Associations on Thursday staged a protest at the Unity Fountain over a proposed health sector regulatory bill currently before the National Assembly.

The health workers expressed strong opposition to the bill, alleging that it seeks to place all medical professions under the control of the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria.

According to the protesters, the legislation would undermine existing regulatory bodies for other health professions and reduce them to subordinate roles under medical doctors.
The demonstrators said they would proceed to the National Assembly to present their concerns to lawmakers, insisting that the bill should not be passed in its current form.
