A community in Kaduna, Nigeria, is disputing the Nigerian Army’s claim that 31 worshippers abducted during an Easter service attack have been rescued.
The Kuturmi Unity Development Association says the claim is false, stating that the abducted individuals are still in captivity with their kidnappers.
The attack occurred at The Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA) in Arikon community, Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State, leaving five people dead and several others abducted.
The community alleges that the kidnappers have contacted families and representatives of the victims, confirming their safe arrival at the kidnappers’ camp.
The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has faulted the handling of public communication by security agencies, emphasizing the need for verification and empathy in such situations. CAN has also called for the immediate and unconditional release of all abducted worshippers, praying for their safe return.
The Nigerian Police Force initially denied the abduction, but later confirmed it, stating that an investigation is underway. The police have launched security operations to locate and rescue the victims.
