Tragedy has struck an Abuja-based family as bandits killed businessman Muhammad Shuaibu and his 19-year-old daughter, Fatima, despite receiving a total ransom of N12 million.

The victims were abducted on October 3, 2025, from their Zhidu community home in Niger State.

Fatima, a University of Abuja student, and her father, a trader at Dei-Dei Modern Market, were taken captive along with another sister.

The kidnappers demanded ransom in installments, with the family paying N6 million initially, followed by N4 million, and a final N2 million.

In a shocking twist, the bandits killed Fatima, accusing her of being “stubborn,” and later claimed Shuaibu died in captivity due to illness.

The family had sold most of Shuaibu’s assets, including his shop, car, and business equipment, to raise the ransom.

The Niger State Police Command has remained silent on the incident, with no response to calls and messages.

The family’s ordeal highlights the growing insecurity in Nigeria and the need for effective measures to combat banditry.
