Leaders and stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun East senatorial district have endorsed Governor Dapo Abiodun as the party’s consensus candidate for the 2027 senatorial election.
The decision was announced on Monday at a gathering held at Adeola Odutola Hall in Ijebu-Ode. The meeting drew a broad coalition of party leaders, former and serving officials, and grassroots representatives from across the district.
In attendance were members of the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC), all local government chairmen and executives in the district, serving and former lawmakers at state and national levels, all 103 councillors from the nine LGAs, ward chairmen and executives, as well as women and youth leaders.
Lekan Mustapha, former Ogun East senator, spoke on behalf of the stakeholders and said the endorsement reflected a collective conviction that Abiodun has the capacity to effectively represent the district in the Senate.
“We will put a body together to deliver this message to our Governor that he has been adopted as the consensus candidate,” Mustapha said. He added that party leaders would formally communicate the endorsement to Abiodun and purchase his nomination forms for the 2027 poll.
Tokunbo Talabi, secretary to the state government, described the endorsement as “historic and unanimous,” citing Abiodun’s track record in governance and party cohesion.
Femi Ogunbanwo, House of Representatives member for Odogbolu, Ijebu-Ode and Ijebu North East federal constituency, said the governor’s administration had promoted peace and development across the state and would attract more federal dividends to Ogun East.
The gathering was attended by prominent APC figures including former senators Gbenga Kaka and Lekan Mustapha; Adedoyin Adeleke, Ogun East APC chairman; and party elders such as Kola Ogunjobi, Bayo Dayo, Pegba Otemolu, James Dina and Osibote Amoran.
