Former Adamawa North Senator Ishaku Abbo has defected from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) to the Labour Party (LP), citing uncertainty in the ADC following a Supreme Court ruling on the party’s leadership dispute.

Abbo announced his decision in a statement on Sunday. On Thursday, the Supreme Court voided a Court of Appeal judgment that had asked parties in the crisis to maintain the status quo, and instead sent the matter back to the Federal High Court for determination.

“Following the leadership crises rocking the ADC at national and state level leaving all of us high on uncertainty, I have today joined the Labour Party alongside my supporters so we can contest elections in 2027,” Abbo said.

The former senator said his exit was driven by political aspirations, not resentment.

“I am leaving ADC not out of hate for the party but to pursue our political aspirations because I carry the dreams of many people,” he stated.

Abbo added that he has forgiven those who “deliberately hurt and betrayed” him during his time in the party.

He thanked Minister of Works David Umahi, National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, and former Ekiti governor Ayo Fayose for their support and encouragement despite party differences.
