Gunmen have killed a teacher and abducted the principal and several students at Community High School in Ahoro-Esinele, Oriire LGA, Oyo State.
The attack happened Friday morning between 8 and 9 a.m., throwing the community into panic as parents scrambled for information. The Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board said the assailants stormed the school, shot a teacher dead, and took away Principal Rachael Alamu and an unspecified number of students before fleeing into a nearby forest reserve.
OYOSUBEB chairman Nureni Adeniran described it as a “dark and painful moment” for the state’s education sector. “We mourn with the family of the teacher whose life was tragically cut short. His service, dedication and sacrifice will never be forgotten,” he said.
Oyo police spokesperson Ayanlade Olayinka confirmed the incident and said security operatives have been mobilized. The commissioner of police has gone to the community with a tactical team to coordinate rescue efforts. Police are still verifying the exact number of students abducted.
Adeniran urged parents and residents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies.
The attack has renewed concerns over insecurity in parts of Oyo State, coming weeks after a failed kidnap attempt along the Ibadan-Ijebu road left one person dead.
