Dangote Petroleum Refinery & Petrochemicals has reduced the price of aviation fuel, Jet A1, to ₦1,650 per litre from ₦1,750 per litre, effective May 19.

The refinery said the price cut is aimed at easing cost pressures on airlines and ensuring steady fuel supply nationwide. It also announced a 30-day interest-free credit facility for marketers and airline operators, backed by bank guarantees.

In addition, Dangote said it is shifting from a dollar-based pricing structure to a naira-based model for aviation fuel sales.

The company said the measures should lower procurement costs for airlines, improve operational stability, and help moderate airfares. Aviation fuel accounts for a large share of airline operating expenses, and operators have warned that rising prices threaten the sustainability of domestic flights.

In April, the Airline Operators of Nigeria said fuel costs had climbed from ₦900 per litre in February to ₦3,300 per litre, prompting threats of a suspension of operations. A federal government technical committee later recommended including aviation fuel in the naira-for-crude scheme and set an indicative price range of ₦1,760–₦1,988 per litre in Lagos and ₦1,809–₦2,037 per litre in Abuja.
