Boko Haram fighters attacked a Nigerian Army base on the Mandara–Buratai Road in Borno State early Friday, killing eight soldiers and injuring several others, according to military sources.
The assault happened around 4 a.m. during heavy rainfall, when visibility and response were limited. A source at the 162 Battalion confirmed the timing and said the insurgents overran parts of the facility. Another source told SaharaReporters the attackers carried out a brutal assault and beheaded the eight soldiers who were killed. More troops sustained injuries.
Security sources said reinforcement teams were sent to the area after the attack. Efforts are ongoing to assess total casualties and recover the base. SaharaReporters reported obtaining footage from the scene, though military officials have not released an official statement yet.
The attack is the latest in a series of renewed strikes by Boko Haram and ISWAP targeting military positions in the North-East, despite ongoing counterinsurgency operations.
