Brighton & Hove Albion head coach Fabian Hürzeler has expressed his delight following the arrival of highly rated Nigerian youngster Zadok Yohanna, following the completion of his transfer from Swedish club AIK.

The Premier League side officially announced the signing of the 18-year-old on Saturday, reportedly beating off interest from fellow English clubs Chelsea and Newcastle United to secure his services.

Yohanna’s move marks another significant milestone in his rapid rise in European football. The teenager left Kaduna-based Ikon Allah Football Academy for Sweden just over a year ago and quickly established himself as one of AIK’s brightest prospects, registering nine goal contributions in 12 appearances this season.

Speaking after the transfer was confirmed, Hürzeler praised the Nigerian’s attacking qualities and expressed confidence in his potential.

“I’m looking forward to working with Zadok,” Hürzeler told BBC Sport.

“Having seen his games and his attributes, he is a player who can impact games in the final third.”

Despite his excitement, the German tactician stressed the need for patience as Yohanna adjusts to life at Brighton and the demands of the Premier League.

“He’s still young and will need time to adapt to the club and the Premier League, but he’s an exciting player to watch, and he brings the kind of creativity we know our fans will enjoy,” Hürzeler added.

Yohanna is expected to join his new teammates for pre-season preparations next month as he aims to impress the coaching staff ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.

The teenager also revealed details of his conversation with Hürzeler after sealing the move, saying the Brighton boss encouraged him to remain focused and continue working hard.

“He urged me to keep fighting and working hard. I will give everything I have, and I really want to win trophies with the team,” Yohanna told the club’s official website.

Yohanna becomes Brighton’s first signing of the summer transfer window as the Seagulls strengthen their squad ahead of a season that will see them compete both domestically and in the UEFA Conference League.
