The Federal High Court in Abuja has revoked the bail granted to the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, over his failure to appear in court for the continuation of his trial.
Justice Muhammad Umar ordered the revocation of Sowore’s bail during proceedings on Tuesday after the defendant was absent from court.
At the resumed hearing, prosecuting counsel Kehinde Akinlolu informed the court that Sowore had prior knowledge of the scheduled proceedings but failed to appear.
Akinlolu urged the court to revoke the defendant’s bail, alleging that Sowore had repeatedly employed tactics aimed at delaying the trial.
Although Sowore had sent a letter requesting an adjournment, Justice Umar noted that the application did not provide any reason for the request.
The court subsequently revoked Sowore’s bail and adjourned the matter until June 22 for further hearing.

Reacting to the development, Sowore, in a post on his X account, claimed that the court was expected to hear his application seeking the recusal of the trial judge.
According to him, the decision to revoke his bail was an attempt to assert control over the proceedings.
“The agenda for today was to consider my application seeking the judge’s recusal, but instead, he opted to revoke my bail in a bid to assert forceful control over the trial,” Sowore wrote.
“I will confront these developments with determination and resilience. This was all planned, but it shall not prevail. The struggle continues!”
The AAC presidential candidate has been involved in ongoing legal proceedings, with previous court sessions focusing on applications related to the conduct of the trial.
