President Bola Tinubu has rolled out a new skills programme to train 5,000 young Nigerians as meter installers and technicians.
Announced Thursday on his verified X account, the initiative — called The Power Force — sits under the Presidential Metering Initiative, PMI. Tinubu says it will tackle youth unemployment, close Nigeria’s metering gap, and help end estimated billing.
The training will focus on practical technical skills and link graduates directly to jobs in the power sector. It’s open to Nigerians who have finished secondary school, with a special slot reserved for serving National Youth Service Corps members.
“Through the PMI, we are opening a new pathway for 5,000 young Nigerians to be trained as meter installers and technicians under The Power Force. This programme is about jobs, skills and dignity,” Tinubu wrote.
He explained that proper metering will let consumers pay only for what they use, while giving electricity companies clearer revenue to fix infrastructure and expand connections.
“This is how we build a power sector that is fairer to consumers, stronger for investors and better able to deliver reliable electricity,” he added.
Tinubu has directed the PMI, the Federal Ministry of Youth Development, and the National Power Training Institute of Nigeria to launch the programme within the next 30 days.
He urged eligible youths to apply: “Join The Power Force. Learn a skill. Earn with dignity. Help us end estimated billing and be part of the work to light up Nigeria.”
