The Kano State Police Command has ordered a restriction of movement in Dawakin Kudu and Warawa Local Government Areas from 12 noon to 5 pm on Saturday, June 20, 2026, to secure the House of Representatives bye-election.
Announced Friday by Police Public Relations Officer CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa on behalf of Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, the measure is part of efforts to ensure a peaceful, orderly and credible poll.
Only personnel on essential duties, Independent National Electoral Commission officials, accredited observers and duly identified journalists will be exempted from the restriction.
Bakori said security operatives have been deployed to polling units, collation centers, INEC offices and other critical locations across the two LGAs, following resolutions reached by the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Election Security.
“We have put in place a comprehensive security architecture in collaboration with all relevant agencies to guarantee a peaceful, orderly and credible electoral process,” he said, while urging voters to conduct themselves peacefully and comply with electoral guidelines.
The command also prohibited campaigning, canvassing for votes or displaying party insignia within 300 meters of polling units, and reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on electoral violence and malpractice. “The command will not tolerate vote-buying, vote-selling, ballot box snatching, voter intimidation or the spread of fake news and misinformation.
Anyone found engaging in any electoral offence will be arrested and prosecuted in accordance with the Electoral Act 2022,” Bakori warned.
He assured residents that adequate security has been provided for electoral officials, materials and collation centers before, during and after the election, and called on the public to report suspicious activities.
“Our objective is to ensure that every eligible voter exercises his or her civic responsibility without fear or intimidation,” he added, appealing to political parties, candidates and supporters to obey the law and maintain the peace for which Kano is known.
