Resident doctors at the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital (OOUTH), Sagamu, Ogun State, have commenced a 10-day warning strike over the non-payment of revised professional and specialist allowances, delayed training funds, manpower shortages, and poor welfare conditions.
The industrial action was announced in a communiqué issued after the association’s second-quarter ordinary general meeting held on Monday at the Adebola Adegunwa Hall, OOUTH, Sagamu.

Signed by the association’s president, Dr. John Omotoso, the doctors said the decision followed the expiration of a 14-day ultimatum issued to the state government without any signed Memorandum of Understanding or concrete commitment on their demands.
They expressed concern over the non-implementation and non-payment of revised professional and specialist allowances, including outstanding arrears, despite repeated engagements with relevant authorities.

The doctors also criticised the delay in the 2026 Medical Residency Training Fund (MRTF), even after its domestication by the Ogun State Government, as well as severe manpower shortages that have led to excessive workload, burnout, and extended duty hours.
Other grievances include insecurity within the hospital environment, theft and burglary incidents, poor condition of doctors’ call rooms, inadequate accommodation, and substandard meal provisions for medical staff.
The association stated that its demands include immediate payment of the 2026 MRTF, implementation of revised allowances in the July 2026 salary, and urgent improvements to hospital infrastructure, including security upgrades and renovation of staff facilities.
It warned that any doctor who violates the strike directive will be fined ₦50,000, adding that an emergency general meeting will be held after the 10-day action to review progress and determine next steps.
