The Federal Ministry of Works has announced a ban on the operation of commercial motorcycles and tricycles on the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway as part of efforts to protect the newly constructed road infrastructure.
The restriction, which takes effect this week, was announced by the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos State, Mr. Olufemi Dare, in a statement issued on Sunday.
Dare said the decision was aimed at preventing misuse of the superhighway and preserving its structural integrity for long-term use.
He explained that the ban forms part of measures introduced to ensure the highway remains in good condition and continues to serve its intended purpose.

The Federal Controller also announced a prohibition on the indiscriminate parking of trucks and articulated vehicles along the coastal highway and on bridges across Lagos State.
In addition, the ministry warned against the indiscriminate disposal of refuse along highway corridors, describing the practice as unacceptable and harmful to road infrastructure.
Dare said appropriate road signs indicating the new restrictions had already been installed, while task force officials would be deployed to strategic locations to enforce compliance.
He warned that violators of the directives would face strict enforcement measures.
Describing the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway as a world-class infrastructure project, Dare urged all road users to comply with the regulations in the interest of public safety and the preservation of the facility.
According to him, proper maintenance of the highway will enhance its lifespan and ensure it continues to deliver lasting benefits to Nigerians.
