The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has uncovered 43,980 capsules of tramadol concealed inside two large vehicle fuel tanks in what the agency described as a sophisticated drug trafficking operation.
The seizure was disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday by the NDLEA’s Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, and shared on the agency’s official X handle.

According to the statement, the suspect travelled to Onitsha, Anambra State, where he purchased the two fuel tanks specifically to conceal and transport illicit drugs rather than for use in a vehicle or commercial sale.
The agency said the suspect successfully transported the concealed consignment through multiple security checkpoints from Anambra State before he was intercepted by NDLEA operatives in the Wukari area of Taraba State.
Babafemi said a thorough search of the fuel tanks led to the discovery of 43,980 capsules of tramadol carefully hidden inside them.
He noted that the arrest brought the suspect’s drug trafficking operation to an abrupt end, adding that a video released by the agency captured the moment officers uncovered the concealed drugs during the operation.
The NDLEA reiterated its commitment to dismantling drug trafficking networks across the country and bringing those involved in the illicit trade to justice.
