Vice President Kashim Shettima, former Head of State General Yakubu Gowon, state governors, and the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, are among the prominent Nigerians attending the one-year remembrance ceremony in honour of former President Muhammadu Buhari in Abuja.

The event, taking place at the Nigerian Army Conference Centre in Asokoro, has drawn members of Buhari’s family, including former First Lady Aisha Buhari and the late president’s children.

Also in attendance are former cabinet ministers and presidential aides, past and serving governors, traditional and religious leaders, current and former lawmakers, retired and serving diplomats, as well as former service chiefs.

The remembrance programme is expected to feature special prayers, tributes, and reflections on the life, leadership, and legacy of the former Nigerian leader.

As part of the ceremony, a commemorative book titled Tributes and Condolences in Honour of Muhammadu Buhari will be unveiled. The publication contains condolence messages and tributes from world leaders and other notable personalities following Buhari’s death.

Muhammadu Buhari, who served as Nigeria’s President from 2015 to 2023 and earlier as the country’s military Head of State between 1983 and 1985, died on July 13, 2025, at the age of 82 after a prolonged illness at a London clinic.

He was buried in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State, in accordance with Islamic rites shortly after his death, while the nation observed a period of mourning.
