Belgian club KRC Genk have completed the signing of Nigerian striker Rafiu Durosinmi from Italian side Pisa SC on a four-year contract.

The 23-year-old becomes Genk’s second signing of the summer and is expected to strengthen the club’s attacking options ahead of the new season.

Durosinmi arrives with a reputation as a powerful and clinical centre-forward, combining physical strength, technical ability and an eye for goal.

The Nigerian made a name for himself during his time with Czech club Viktoria Plzeň, where he scored 35 goals and provided 10 assists in 86 appearances across domestic and European competitions.

Overall, Durosinmi has made 150 professional appearances, scoring 54 goals and registering 17 assists.

Genk’s Head of Football, Dimitri de Condé, said the striker’s qualities were a perfect match for the club’s style of play and ambitions.

“Rafiu is a striker whose qualities fit perfectly with the way KRC Genk want to play,” de Condé said.

“He is a real presence in the penalty area, but he is also technically strong and links up well with his teammates. He is a classic number nine who can hold the ball up and bring others into play.”

De Condé added that the club was looking for a striker capable of making an immediate impact and helping Genk compete at the top of Belgian football.

Durosinmi’s decision to join Genk was also influenced by fellow Nigerian international Paul Onuachu, who previously played for the club.

The new signing revealed that he spoke with Onuachu before making the move and received positive feedback about the club, its supporters and its player development system.

“I want to be important for the team from day one, score goals and give everything in every game. I spoke with Paul about the club. He told me so many great things about Genk, the supporters and the way the club works with its players. I’m proud to be a Genkie,” Durosinmi said.

The Nigerian forward will now look to make an immediate impact as he begins a new chapter of his career in Belgium.
