The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has extended the deadline for political parties to submit the names of candidates for the governorship and State House of Assembly elections scheduled for February 2027.

The commission announced that the deadline, initially fixed for Saturday, August 8, has now been moved to Tuesday, August 11, following appeals from political parties for additional time to conclude the nomination process.

INEC also announced the suspension of physical collection of Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) in Osun State ahead of the state’s governorship election scheduled for August 15.

According to the commission, voters who applied for replacement of lost, damaged or defaced PVCs have until midnight on Sunday, August 9, to download printable copies of their cards.

INEC said the deadline would enable it to compile the final statistics on PVC downloads ahead of the election.

The commission explained that PVC collection in Osun State began at the registration area level from July 22 to July 31 before moving to local government areas between August 1 and August 7.v

It further disclosed that replacement downloadable PVCs had been made available to affected voters in Odo-Otin and Ife Central Local Government Areas after hoodlums reportedly stole cards from the two collection centres.

INEC, however, assured voters that the stolen PVCs could not be used to vote in the election.

The electoral commission reaffirmed its readiness to conduct a free, fair, credible and inclusive governorship election in Osun State on August 15.
