The Nigeria Immigration Service is sending a special team to the United Kingdom to clear passport backlogs and make applications easier for Nigerians living there.
The move was ordered by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo. He directed NIS Comptroller-General K. N. Nandap to deploy officers from headquarters to the UK starting August 10, 2026. The team will work with the Nigerian High Commission to handle three categories: pending applications, new applications, and renewals for passports with less than one year left.
Instead of making everyone travel to London, the team will visit designated cities across the UK to carry out enrolment and processing. The full schedule including cities, dates, venues, and times will be published later by the High Commission.
Who can apply:
- People with pending passport applications
- First-time applicants
- Current passport holders expiring in under 12 months
Applicants must come with completed application forms and proof of payment. NIS warned people not to go to any location until the official schedule is released. Updates will be shared through the Nigerian High Commission UK’s official channels.

NIS also noted that other options remain open during the exercise. The Contactless Passport Application System and home delivery service will continue to run as usual.
