Popular Nigerian dancer and socialite, Iweh Odinaka, better known as Poco Lee, is reportedly being held on remand in the United Kingdom over an alleged assault offence.
According to Benjamin Kuti, popularly known as the Oluomo of Derby and founder of a community of Nigerians in the UK, Poco Lee is expected to appear before Snaresbrook Crown Court in London in September.
Kuti, who confirmed the development in a conversation with journalists on Monday, said the dancer’s next court appearance is scheduled for September 15, 2026.
“I can confirm that the reports are true. Poco Lee is currently on remand in a UK prison. His next court date is scheduled for the second week of September, when he is expected to have a plea hearing,” Kuti said.
He explained that a plea hearing is typically the stage at which an accused person indicates whether they intend to plead guilty or not guilty to the allegations.
Kuti said he planned to attend the proceedings as part of his support for Nigerians facing legal proceedings in the UK.
“It is important that we allow the legal process to take its course. Everyone is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law,” he said.
Reports of Poco Lee’s alleged detention began circulating online on August 19, although early reports did not identify the alleged complainant or provide details about the circumstances surrounding the alleged offence.
However, a public court record identifies a defendant as Iweh Odinaka in a case at Snaresbrook Crown Court. The record shows a hearing on August 21, 2026, and lists the matter as an application for bail. It does not provide details of the alleged offence.
The court record also notes that an appearance in court does not imply guilt and that defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
An email reportedly sent to the court seeking confirmation of the details of the case had not received a response at the time of filing the report.
