The Nigerian Correctional Service has arrested a woman who allegedly tried to sneak drugs into the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Ibara, Abeokuta, Ogun State.
According to the NCoS Public Relations Officer in Ogun, Odukoya Olayinka, the incident happened around 1:33pm on Friday during a routine screening of visitors.
The woman had come to see an inmate on death row when officers found a substance suspected to be “colos” concealed inside a sachet of Milo beverage.
“The discovery shows how alert our personnel are and how committed we are to stopping illicit substances from getting into our facilities,” Odukoya said.
After the arrest, she was handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency for further investigation and possible prosecution.
The Controller of Corrections in Ogun, Kamoru Adesina, praised the officers for their professionalism. He also reminded the public that correctional centres are meant for reformation and rehabilitation, not for moving illegal drugs.
The command warned that anyone caught trying to bring prohibited items into custodial centres will face the full weight of the law.
