Terrorists recently abducted over 23 farmers from several communities in Zamfara’s Zurmi area in North West Nigeria. The affected villages include Gandasamu, Kadawa, Jabanda, and Nasamu.

This unsettling incident occurred at around 6:20pm on Monday, April 29.

Reports indicate that the armed group initially planned to attack the Zurmi local government headquarters. After receiving a distress call from Zurmi residents, the Nigerian Army swiftly deployed personnel with armoured tanks to confront the terrorists.

However, the attackers changed tactics and targeted other communities shortly afterward.

Zurmi residents, led by the village head of Gidan-Duwa (whose name is being withheld for security reasons), alerted authorities about the impending attack.

They noticed the armed group spending considerable time mobilising its members across various camps before heading towards the town.

Ibrahim Muhammad Liman, a source residing in the Kanwuri area of Zurmi, told newsmen: “We were at the Emirate when the village head reported to the Council that the armed marauders were presently gathering with their bikes in large numbers. We concluded they were trying to move to Zurmi for a heinous attack.”

Everyone panicked, he said. It was only about a week ago that the town suffered an attack that led to the killing of three people and the abduction of three others, including the Shamakin Zurmi (an officer in the emir’s palace).
