The humanitarian crisis triggered by Sudan’s ongoing civil war is worsening, leading to a surge in deadly infections, including cholera, which has claimed more than 300 lives.

World Health Organization (WHO) official Margaret Harris reported on Friday that the region has recorded 11,327 cholera cases, resulting in 316 deaths.

In a media briefing, Harris highlighted the increasing number of cases, noting that the true scale of the outbreak might be even greater. “We expect to have more than has been reported,” she stated. In addition to cholera, the region is also witnessing a rise in dengue fever and meningitis infections, further straining the already fragile healthcare system.

The escalating health crisis underscores the severe impact of the civil war on public health in Sudan, as conflict continues to displace populations and disrupt access to essential medical services.
