The Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba, Delta State, came alive on Tuesday as the 2024 National Youth Games hosted thrilling athletics events, with young athletes from Delta and Anambra States battling for supremacy in the 200-meter and 4×100-meter relay finals.

In the girls’ 200m, Anambra’s Chigozie Nwankwo continued her dominance, claiming her second gold medal at the games with a personal best of 24.71 seconds. Nwankwo led a 1-2 finish for Anambra, as her teammate Adaeze Ezeh secured the silver with 25.02 seconds, while Delta’s Ngozi Okereke took bronze in 25.25 seconds.

Nwankwo and Ezeh later teamed up to defend their girls’ 4x100m title, winning Anambra’s second consecutive gold in the event with a time of 48.21 seconds. Edo finished second in 48.82 seconds, and Team Ogun took bronze in 48.90 seconds.

In the boys’ events, Delta State took charge, with Bright Gift winning the 200m final in 22.35 seconds. Ogun’s Muyideen Adeola placed second with a time of 22.83 seconds, while Perfect Faye secured bronze in 23.07 seconds.

Delta’s boys also clinched gold in the 4x100m relay, finishing in 43.30 seconds, ahead of Bayelsa, who clocked 43.71 seconds for silver, and Ondo State, who took bronze with 43.92 seconds.
