Defending champions, Ricca/Odunfa kicked off the third edition of the Afinni Unity Cup with a commanding 2-0 victory over Epetedo East in the tournament’s opening match at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena on Saturday, October 19th, 2024.
The match began with high energy, and in the 29th minute, Fashola Olowiyu put Ricca/Odunfa ahead, scoring the first goal of the 60-minute game.
Epetedo East pushed hard to equalize in the second half but their efforts were thwarted.
In the 57th minute, Ricca/Odunfa doubled their lead when substitute, Babajide Michael found the back of the net. Epetedo East’s hopes were further dashed when Thomas Adeshina was sent off for a second yellow card just two minutes before regulation time.
Ricca/Odunfa’s victory secures their spot in the next round of the competition.
