Two separate fire incidents were recorded in Lagos on Thursday, with one affecting a plank market at Pipeline Street in Ikotun and the other occurring at the Federal Institute of Industrial Research (FIIRO) office in Oshodi.
According to the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, the fire at the Ikotun plank market destroyed four shops. He credited the swift response of LASEMA’s Dolphin Response Team from Igando and the coordinated efforts of other emergency responders for preventing the fire from spreading to nearby buildings.
Preliminary investigations into the cause of the Ikotun fire remain inconclusive, but no lives were lost, and no injuries were reported.
Earlier in the day, another fire broke out at the FIIRO office in Oshodi due to an overheated generator. LASEMA confirmed that the fire was quickly contained, with no casualties or injuries recorded.
