Security agencies in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have arrested suspects involved in the theft of sewage manhole covers, following a viral video showing individuals removing the covers in broad daylight.
Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media to the FCT Minister, confirmed the arrests in a statement on Sunday. He revealed that efforts are ongoing to track down accomplices, particularly those buying the stolen covers.
Nyesom Wike, the FCT Minister, expressed deep concern over the incident, condemning the actions as both reckless and dangerous. He emphasized the risk posed to road users and pledged that the government would take decisive action to hold all perpetrators accountable.
Wike also commended the citizen who filmed and shared the video, describing the act as a patriotic effort that underscores the importance of community involvement in safeguarding public infrastructure.
The FCT authorities have reassured the public of continued vigilance and promised updates as investigations progress.
