Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North, has formally defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
This move follows his recent resignation from the opposition party, citing worsening instability and internal crises within the PDP.
Nwoko’s decision to switch allegiance was prompted by concerns that the party’s current state poses a threat to his political career.
His defection was met with thunderous chants as he was escorted to the majority wing of the Upper Chamber.
In addition to his defection, Nwoko urged the Senate to establish an ad hoc committee to investigate the ongoing crisis within the PDP.
He emphasized the need for a viable opposition to safeguard Nigeria’s political landscape and ensure a balanced democratic process.
Nwoko’s resignation letter, addressed to the PDP Chairman of Ward 8, Aniocha North Local Government Area, Delta State, cited irreconcilable divisions and factionalization within the party as the reason for his departure.
