Amos Magaji, a member of the House of Representatives representing Zangon Kataf/Jaba federal constituency in Kaduna State, has defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
His defection was announced by Speaker Tajudeen Abbas in a letter read on the floor of the House on Tuesday.
Magaji cited unresolved internal crises within the PDP as the reason for his decision, stating that the situation made it “impossible” for him to remain in the party.
However, the Minority Leader, Kingsley Chinda, objected to the defection, arguing that there was no crisis in the PDP.
He called on Speaker Abbas to declare Magaji’s seat vacant in accordance with Section 68 of the 1999 Constitution. In response, Abbas advised Chinda to submit a formal request.
Magaji joins a growing list of lawmakers who have recently defected from the PDP and Labour Party to the APC.
