Afenifere, a pan-Yoruba socio-political group, has expressed support for President Bola Tinubu to serve two terms in office.
The group criticized those labeling Tinubu’s administration as a “Yoruba government” to deny him a second term, describing it as “tribal opportunism and sedition.”
Afenifere’s national organizing secretary, Abagun Kole Omololu, stated that Tinubu’s government is a Nigerian government, not a Yoruba one, and that he assumed power through democratic choice, not tribal inheritance.
Omololu cited the example of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who served two terms without being denied a second term due to his ethnicity.
The group emphasized the importance of equity and continuity, stating that Tinubu should be allowed to serve his full term of eight years as mandated by the Constitution.
Afenifere’s stance highlights the need for national unity and the rejection of tribal sentiments in Nigerian politics.
