The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced a significant increase in prize money for the upcoming TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) Morocco 2024, doubling the winner’s reward and boosting the overall prize pool by 45%.

CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe confirmed that the winner of this year’s tournament will now take home a record-breaking USD 1,000,000, up from the previous amount. The total prize fund for the competition has also been raised to USD 3,475,000.

“CAF is continuing with its commitment to the development and growth of women’s football in Africa,” said Dr. Motsepe. “The 100% increase in the prize money for the winner and the 45% overall increase in the prize pool should contribute to improved salaries for women football players, coaches, and staff.”

Motsepe praised the rising quality and global competitiveness of African women’s football, noting a surge in fans, broadcast viewership, and commercial interest ahead of WAFCON 2024.

“This competition is going to be enormously successful,” he added.

Prize Money Breakdown for WAFCON 2024:

  • Winner: USD 1,000,000
  • Runner-up: USD 500,000
  • Third place: USD 350,000
  • Fourth place: USD 300,000
  • Quarter-finalists (4 teams): USD 200,000 each
  • 3rd in group stage: USD 150,000
  • 4th in group stage (3 teams): USD 125,000 each

The 2024 edition of WAFCON, to be hosted in Morocco, promises to be the biggest yet—both in terms of financial reward and global attention—as CAF doubles down on its investment in the women’s game.
