Nigeria’s senior men’s basketball team, D’Tigers, will look to edge closer to a second continental crown when they face defending champions and three-time winners Tunisia in their second group fixture at the 2025 FIBA Men’s AfroBasket in Angola on Friday.

The 2015 champions opened their campaign on Wednesday with a dominant 77-59 win over Madagascar. Caleb Agada led the scoring with a game-high 22 points, while veteran Stan Okoye also delivered double figures to secure the emphatic victory.

Friday’s clash at the Pavilhao Multiusos de Luanda pits them against a Tunisian side reeling from a shock 86-65 defeat to Cameroon — a loss that ended their decade-long unbeaten run at AfroBasket. Tunisia’s last defeat in the tournament came in the 2015 third-place match, the same year Nigeria lifted their first and only AfroBasket title under coach William Voigt.

The North Africans will be without retired star Makram Romdhane and veteran Radhouane Slimane, but still boast threats like Jawhar Jawadi (16 points vs Cameroon), Mohamed Ochi (12 points), and Omar Abada (11 points).

With both teams eyeing the top spot in their group, victory today would significantly boost their chances of sealing an automatic quarter-final place in the quadrennial competition.
