The Jigawa State Government has declared today, Wednesday, a public holiday to mark the 34th anniversary of the state’s creation.
Jigawa, which was carved out of the old Kano State on August 27, 1991, was established alongside Yobe, Enugu, Bauchi, and Kogi States during the nationwide state creation exercise aimed at improving governance and fostering development.

In a statement issued in Dutse, the state capital, by the Head of Service, Muhammad Dagaceri, residents were encouraged to participate in the various activities and festivities lined up to celebrate the occasion.
The government congratulated the people of Jigawa on the milestone and urged them to use the day to reflect, offer prayers for the state and Nigeria, and appreciate the progress made since its creation.
Dagaceri explained that the work-free day was declared to allow public servants and residents to fully take part in the anniversary celebrations and communal prayers without distractions from official duties.

He further called on citizens to value the peace, unity, and development the state has enjoyed while working collectively toward a brighter future as Jigawa enters its 35th year.
According to the government, the gesture reflects its commitment to honouring the state’s history and promoting community spirit among its people.
