A Syrian national, Abdulrahman Badenjki, who had lived in Sokoto for over 40 years, has died in a suspected suicide after allegedly ingesting insecticide. The incident occurred on Wednesday at around 9:30 p.m. at Gawon Nama Zaga Road.
Authorities received an urgent distress call and responded immediately to the scene, finding Badenjki unconscious and rushing him to Usmanu Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital (UDUTH), where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Police secured the scene, documenting it for further investigation, and the body was deposited at the hospital mortuary for autopsy.
A 16-year-old boy, Ahmad Aliyu, alerted worshippers at a nearby mosque after discovering his employer ingesting the insecticide, prompting the police response.
Senior investigators have taken over the case to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
