The Rivers State House of Assembly is firmly pressing forward with impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu, stating that no political solution will stop the process.

Assembly spokesperson Enemi George announced that lawmakers are determined to see the impeachment through, dismissing claims that the move is politically motivated.

He argued that the assembly is acting strictly within the law in response to what he called repeated constitutional violations by the governor.

During a plenary session, a notice of “gross misconduct” signed by 26 lawmakers was formally read, outlining several allegations against Fubara.

These accusations include mismanaging public funds, refusing to present the state budget, demolishing the assembly complex, and making appointments without due process.

This marks the third attempt by the assembly to remove the governor.

George described the governor as a “recidivist” for allegedly committing the same offenses despite previous interventions, including peace deals brokered by President Bola Tinubu that ultimately failed.

The assembly also rejected a N100,000 “Christmas gift” from the governor, citing legal concerns.

While the move comes amid a well-known political feud with FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, the assembly’s spokesperson insists the impeachment is based on constitutional duty, not political influence.
