The Islamic State in the Sahel has claimed responsibility for a daring overnight attack on Niamey’s international airport and the nearby 101 Airbase of the Nigerien Air Force.

According to the SITE Intelligence Group, militants launched the assault shortly after midnight, using motorcycles, heavy weapons, and drones. Video released by the group shows aircraft on fire with no visible resistance.

At least three civilian planes were damaged, including aircraft belonging to Air Côte d’Ivoire and ASKY Airlines. Official casualty figures have not yet been released.

The incident underscores growing security concerns in Niger and the Sahel region, as jihadist groups continue to expand their operations into capital cities and strategic infrastructure.
