Suspected Lakurawa terrorists attacked a mosque in Dadinkowa community, Maiyama LGA of Kebbi state, killing four worshippers and injuring five others.
The attack was a reprisal for a foiled military ambush earlier in the week, targeting the convoy of General Bemgha Koughna, the GOC 8 division.
The gunmen stormed the mosque on Wednesday evening, shooting sporadically as congregants observed prayers.
Security authorities have confirmed ongoing efforts to track down the perpetrators, assuring the public of intensified operations to restore calm.
The injured victims were rushed to nearby medical facilities for treatment.
This incident comes amid rising concerns over Lakurawa activities in the north-west, following a series of attacks on communities in Arewa LGA of Kebbi, which killed at least 33 residents on February 20.
