Since its establishment, the Lagos Island Book Club has grown into a vibrant platform dedicated to making books more accessible to people, encouraging reading culture, and fostering meaningful conversations around knowledge and personal development.

Speaking on the significance of the achievement, the Convener, Abdulrasaq Mohammed Retrol noted that the journey of the Book Club has become a reference point for many others who are now establishing similar reading communities and engaging in book-related initiatives across different areas.

“This anniversary is not just a celebration of one year, but a celebration of impact, growth, and the power of ideas. We are proud that Lagos Island Book Club has inspired others while strengthening literacy and educational values in our society,” Abdulrasaq Mohammed Retrol stated.

The Book Club also used the occasion to appreciate its esteemed Patrons, Hon. Olanrewaju Afinni, Hon. Lara Oyekan Olumegbon, for their unwavering support and encouragement since inception.

Special recognition was equally given to the Chairmen of the two local councils, Hon. Ajibade Taiwo Oyekan and Hon. Muibi Alade Folawiyo, for their support towards youth and educational advancement within the community.

The organisers further acknowledged the outstanding presence and support of the Lagos Island East LCDA Legislative Arm, particularly Hon. Folashade Giwa, whose prompt and gracious response to the invitation was highly commended. Despite the short notice, Hon. Giwa attended with fellow councillors, demonstrating strong commitment to community development and educational initiatives.

With the inauguration of the second cohort now complete, the Lagos Island Book Club has officially begun another year-long journey focused on value-driven learning, personal growth, and building a stronger reading culture among young people and residents.

As the Club enters its second year, expectations remain high that it will continue to expand its impact and remain a beacon of literacy and intellectual excellence in Lagos State.
