Veteran Nollywood actor and producer Solomon Akiyesi has died, marking another loss for Nigeria’s film industry.

His death was confirmed by Abubakar Yakubu, president of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, who said the actor passed away in his sleep on Sunday.

“Yes, it is true. He died yesterday. Slept and did not wake up,” Yakubu said, adding that further details are being awaited from the family. He also confirmed that Akiyesi’s body has been deposited in a morgue in Abuja.

Akiyesi, who hailed from Ososo in Edo State, began his acting career in the late 1990s and became a well-known figure in Nollywood, featuring in over 100 films.

Some of his notable works include “Marry Who You Love,” “Kiss My Pain,” “Heart of a Saint,” and “Desperate Ladies.”

Tributes have begun to pour in from colleagues and fans, who remember him for his dedication, versatility, and enduring presence on screen.

His passing adds to a growing list of recent losses in Nollywood, prompting renewed conversations about the welfare and support systems available to actors in the industry.
