The U.S. government said on May 18 it will bar non-citizens who have been in certain African countries affected by a new Ebola outbreak from entering the United States within 21 days of their visit.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued a public health order covering Uganda, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and South Sudan. Officials said the measure is intended to prevent the spread of Ebola to the U.S.
The restrictions apply to non-citizens who have traveled to or through the listed countries during the 21-day period before seeking entry.
The order follows reports of new Ebola cases in the region, with health workers in Goma, Democratic Republic of Congo, preparing facilities for suspected patients on May 17.
