The Tanimu Turaki faction of the Peoples Democratic Party has disowned campaign posters circulating online featuring former President Goodluck Jonathan, calling them fake.

The posters, which appeared on social media, show Jonathan alone and with other politicians as running mates, and bear logos of various political parties.

In a statement Saturday, PDP Interim National Working Committee spokesperson Ini Ememobong said Jonathan remains a registered PDP member under Turaki’s leadership. He said the former president personally confirmed his registration during the party’s recent digital membership exercise at a meeting with the interim NWC on Friday.

The party warned that the posters violate the Electoral Act, which prohibits double registration and prescribes penalties for it.

“We are aware that mischief makers may not only design and circulate fake campaign posters, but may also attempt to input the details of President Jonathan and other prominent members of our party and the opposition movement into the databases of different political parties,” the statement said.

PDP said it has notified the Independent National Electoral Commission and urged the public to disregard any such fraudulent activity.
